Pet Serial Killers – Alex Deaconu and Accomplice
Sadism is the derivation of pleasure as a result of inflicting pain or watching pain inflicted on others.
A disgraceful act, after filing a false police report, this pathetic girl along with an accomplance poisoned her roommate’s Betta with toilet bowl cleaner. Psychotic and shameful, killing an innocent pet because of an issue with the owner, then running away like a coward. Then again, only a coward would do such a thing. Don’t trust this person with your children or pets. Also shocking, she is trying to get a nursing degree. What an ignominious waste to society.
Thanks to our friends at Pet-Abuse.com, she is now listed in the database as an abuser to look out for. Karma will run it’s cycle.
By SPF
Update: Deaconu wrote to us that she didn’t do it, but was present when the incident happened. She also refuses to give the name of her accomplice, which makes her just as guilty for protecting him. I think we can all tell she’s a liar. After going through her moronic gibberish: Quote: ”i didnt kill ur stupid fish” and ”I know what he did was very very wrong. and its important to forgive and move on.” Forgive? She might have well as said, what would Jesus do? We know what you’re wondering, and we don’t know how she graduated high school either. When it comes to the retard bus, she really takes the cake.
Move on? We don’t think so.
Pet serial killer, Tyler Weinman – Miami Florida
Alyssa Caplan
AC360° Staffer
Who or what is behind a spree that has left 18 pet cats gruesomely mutilated and seemingly showcased for their devastated owners? Miami-Dade police have been trying to answer this question and unravel the mystery that has gripped, and at times seemed to terrorize, the Miami towns of Cutler & Palmetto Bay over the last month where police and pet owners began discovering disfigured cats May 13th. Was a serial killer on the loose? Was this some sort of sick prank? The work of a wild animal? Gang initiation or a cult? Who or what might be the next victim?
On Sunday, police announced they had made an arrest. Palmetto High school senior Tyler Hayes Weinman was taken in to custody and charged with 19 counts of Animal cruelty, 4 counts of Burglary, and 19 counts of Improper Disposal of a Dead Animal. Weinman could face a maximum of 158 years in state prison if convicted on all counts, said Terry Shavez, spokeswoman for the state attorney’s office. Find more background on the arrest and Weinman, here.
A judge ordered Weinman released today during a brief hearing after deemed “competent” following psychological testing. Weinman will return home fitted with an electronic monitoring device until he is summoned to appear for his next hearing July 6.
Weinman’s family and some friends have rallied to his support that they absolutely have the wrong guy. His attorney, David Macey, alleges his client is innocent. “It’s trial by ambush,” Macey said. “It’s anything goes so that they can have a body, a warm body, to solve these cat killings. My heart and my sympathy goes out to the owners of these pets, but unfortunately, it won’t provide them any relief that Tyler’s in custody. Tyler is innocent.”
Left puzzled over this bizarre crime, we reached out to Fmr. FBI profiler Candice DeLong to help make sense of what type of person might be motivated to go on a cat killing spree, and why?
Q & A with Candice DeLong
Host of the Discovery Channel Series Deadly Woman, former FBI Profiler and Psychiatric Nurse
Caplan: Candice, when you first heard about these pet cats showing up on their owners lawns mutilated, what went through your mind?
DeLong: The 1st time I heard about this, I wondered if a wild animal was doing it. Had a similar case in San Jose. Cats were being found cut in half, their guts were found on top of bushes. Animal control came in and said it wasn’t a case of animal attacks. So we started investigating possible leads and had a few suspects. Then it all came apart one day when a lady saw a coyote walk away in her back yard with her cat in its mouth. Animal control came back in, looked at their autopsy reports again and realized that the killings were actually animal related. Listen, I don’t know what kind of wild animals are roaming around that part of Florida but the police allege that there is probable cause for an arrest.
Caplan: If these cats were not killed by another animal(s) but at human hand as the prosecution alleges, what does this crime say to you?
DeLong: The thing that stands out to me the most is the number of cat mutilations/fatalities being tied to this person. 18. Killing one cat is not a good sign, but you could maybe write it off as some sort of experimentation. Hopefully it ended with the person feeling disgusted and thinking it was a horrible, horrific idea. But 18 times? There is a level of premeditation here which is far beyond an accident or experimentation.
Caplan: Why and who would go on a cat killing spree?
DeLong: This behavior is a very serious indicator of a troubled person…either someone is suffering from a severe mental illness like schizophrenia and they’re doing it for some delusional reason (like they believe the cat is the devil), in which case they appear to be an unstable person to the outside world, and are not able to commit crimes without getting caught fairly quickly. Or possibly they’re a sadistic killer in training and they’re acting out a fantasy, working up to and practicing what they want to do humans. Cats actually are the MOST frequently abused/mutilated animals by potential serial killers. Why? Well, one killer told me,” I hate them…they are just like women!. They sneak around, they are quiet and conniving, they act like they don’t need you, and they need to be dead!” If I was looking for a suspect, I’d be looking for a male. This is a crime about power; control, rage, and possibly sadism (sexual control). Another possibility is that it was some kind of sick joke or game to someone, but if you think it’s funny, that says something is horribly wrong with the person as well. The person who did this is dangerous to society. Whatever the motivation driving the behavior, the ability to stalk and kill 18 pet cats shows a complete lack of empathy, judgment and regard for the consequences of their actions. Whether or not you like cats, even if you detest them, healthy people are still able to understand the pain they would be inflicting on the family to which they belong.
Caplan: Candice, one of our affiliate stations in Florida is reporting that Detectives believe Weinman was the ringleader of a group committing these crimes. Police would not comment further on other possible suspects and will only confirm one arrest at this point. Does this change the dynamic of the crime if it’s a group, vs. a solo perpetrator?
DeLong: It’s still horribly disturbing but it’s not AS disturbing as the profile of someone acting alone. People, especially teenagers, will do things in a group that they’d never do alone. One of the things that concerns me as a profiler, whosever idea it was, what the hell were they thinking? The fact that someone came up with this idea gives great insight in to their psyche regardless. This is not a typical prank at all. An average kid would not come up with an idea like this. This is not taking a bat to someone’s mailbox, or tp-ing someone’s elm tree. Anyone dismissing the severity of killing and mutilating a small, helpless animal does not understand human nature as I do. Shows a tremendous lack of empathy. This is a very bad behavior. It’s a predictor of future bad things to come.
Caplan: If these crimes were committed by a group, does the so called “ringleader” of the crime, have a different pathology than the other participants?
DeLong: The most dangerous person in a pack is the leader. Pretty much everyone else is a following to some degree. They might not be in to the crime that much, but don’t want to be seen as a loser. Regardless of their involvement, all of these kids should be punished and subject to court ordered mental health care. They need to be assessed by someone very familiar with sociopathy and sadism.
Thanks Candice.

Pet cemetery horror house found on Long Island; woman charged with animal cruelty
BY MIKE JACCARINO
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Sunday, November 8th 2009, 4:00 AM
Animal control officers unearthed a gruesome pet cemetery Saturday in the backyard of a Long Island woman who is suspected of torturing, killing and burying as many as 20 dogs and cats.
Some of the animals are thought to be pets belonging to Sharon McDonough‘s neighbors in Suffolk County, officials said.
As word spread on Awixa Place in Selden, neighbors began showing up with pictures of their missing animals.
“A couple of people have lost pets,” said neighbor Angelo Zotto, 70. “They were up here today with pictures of their pets showing them to the SPCA, wondering if theirs had been found in the backyard.”
McDonough, 43, was charged with animal cruelty.
“We have the allegation that she tortured, killed and buried them in her backyard,” Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said. “It appears to be mostly dogs but we won’t know for sure until a vet checks them out.”
Investigators uncovered the cemetery with help from the cast of the National Geographic show, “Rescue Ink Unleased.”
An anonymous tipster called the muscle-bound, motorcycle-riding cast and told them animals were being mistreated at McDonough’s home.
When “Rescue Ink” cast members showed up at the house and discovered malnourished pets at the home, they called the SPCA, Gross said.
He said SPCA investigators found five gaunt dogs in small, cramped cages at the home.
The SPCA returned Saturday with a search warrant and began digging, unearthing bones from as many as 20 animals, Gross said.

You should be ashamed. You say these people don’t have “class” yet they are only trying to help those who cannot protect themselves. Not so long ago, humans were barely any different from the animals your are talking about. In case you didn’t pay attention in biology class, humans and “animals” all belong to the same Kingdom – the ANIMAL kingdom. Just because you are human does not give you the RIGHT to act like you are above all of the other creatures of the world. You may be more clever than they, but they still feel, hurt, think, breathe, and love as we do.

Every conscious being has interests that should be respected. No being who is conscious of being alive should be devalued to thinghood, dominated, used as a resource or a commodity. The crux of the idea known as animal rights is a movement to extend moral consideration to all conscious beings.
Nobody should have to demonstrate a specific level of intelligence to be accorded moral consideration. No one should have to be judged beautiful to be accorded moral consideration. No being should have to be useful to humanity or capable of accepting “duties” in order to be extended moral consideration. Indeed, what other animals need from us is being free from duties to us.

The government has ruled that fish may feel pain and will draw up a charter of rights to protect them from inhumane treatment in research laboratories, writes Michelle McGinty.
Home Office guidelines will ensure that fish used for scientific study are monitored for signs of stress. Scientists will be required to “enrich” the animals’ lives by putting shelters and other features in aquariums.
The charter also stipulates that laboratories and universities should “retire” fish at a reasonable age so they can enjoy their old age.
The guidelines have been prompted by mounting evidence suggesting that fish, which are used widely for genetic research, have pain receptors similar to those of land-dwelling vertebrates.
A study conducted at the Roslin Institute near Edinburgh and published by the Royal Society in 2003 appeared to show fish have nervous systems that respond to damaging stimuli.
Last year 230,000 fish were used by government laboratories, an increase of more than a third since 2003. They are the third largest group of laboratory animals, behind mice and rats.
Zebrafish, a tropical variety, are most commonly used because they are suited to a wide range of experiments. They can regenerate their fins, skin and heart following injury in an experiment. The mechanism by which they do so is unknown and is being studied by scientists.
Victoria Braithwaite, of Edinburgh University’s institute of evolutionary biology, who has helped draw up the guidelines, said there was growing evidence that fish had greater intellectual capacity than previously thought. A study last year found red sea groupers were hunting cooperatively with moray eels, using eye contact to call them to a hunt and then sharing the spoils.

– Of 332 animal cruelty arrests studied by the Chicago Police Department,
70 percent of suspects had arrests on felony charges (including two homicides)
86 percent of suspects had multiple arrests
70 percent of suspects had narcotics charges (68 percent of which were for sales or trafficking)
65 percent of suspects had been charged with battery-related violent offenses

I wonder about the children they’ll have and what they’ll role model…and the kind of people that could be with jerks like that.
Unbelieveable.
I’m glad someone got PETA involved. If something can be done, they’ll get it done. They helped me with a puppy here in Tampa that was being left outside with no shelter on a chain when everyone was being told to bring in their plants because it was so cold! PETA helped all the way from Virginia and mobilized people they knew here and they don’t have that dog anymore. I don’t agree with everything I’ve heard from PETA but most of it I do.

Maybe PETA will care. Maybe a better action would e-mail a news agency. If it ever was to make it on air, then a larger number of people might help further this cause. You have to realize that to many, many people think PETA is a joke. They won’t listen to them.
vaheelsfan 4:57 am on October 4, 2010 Permalink |
I would be one of those people who would think that PETA is out of whack. I believe that they’re against keeping fish in an aquarium altogether, so saying “I’m into keeping fish, but don’t think bettas are treated well” would be like a hunter saying “I’m into killing a lot of deer, but hate people that poach.” They won’t side with you because they’re already against your hobby or whatever.

Is there anyone left who still believes PETA is an animal *welfare* organization, and not just a PR driven arm of the animal rights movement? Well, rights for some animals, that is – lab rats and KFC chickens are pretty important to them. Not shelter animals, though. Those are dispensable. If they weren’t, would PETA keep killing 97% of the animals it ‘takes in’?
Read that again – 97 percent.

This particular article is very shocking to me, especially because of the comments and attitude some people have about fish. I love them! That girl is too horrible to even go on about, I hope she gets what is deserved 😦 I take in tropical fish in situations people no longer want or can keep, no questions asked. I only take in freshwater fish of any kind, goldfish and koi. I have had people drive from all over AZ to drop off fish. I Can do pick ups if you live near by.
I have met many other folks who do rescue. birds, cats, dogs, horses…but who does fish? ME..hehe.. that is why i started taking in tropical fish.
I am not a business.I do not have a store front. I am a simple home with some nice well kept fish tanks and some very happy fish.
What i do is alot of fun and work. my power and water bill are not cheap..but I love the company and rewards from it. I’m glad I found this page. Please email me if you have or know of any fish that need rescued, I will do my best to help 🙂

Hello Krissy, although this is not my blog, SpiderPigfFsh was my beta, my friends started this website, without my help. I am happy they did. It is hard to choose between rescueing a fish from the store, and then knowing another will be ordered the next day, to sit in a cup of water. I think what your doing is very admirable.

Is abusing so fun?
They feel that ugly or ran out of things to do so they kill?
I used to have over 10 pet fishes. And fishes all have their own feelings and personality. ;_;

That’s awful!
It’s like she don’t think fish feel pain!
Just because they can’t scream or cry out doesn’t mean they can’t feel it!

People need to come to the realization that fish are animals too. Fish, like a cat or dog, are intelligent animals with unique qualities and personalities. They feel emotion and pain just as any other animal! Fish are treated in ways that would warrant felony charges if it were other animals that were so horribly abused.
As a moderator and creator of fight 4 Fish Rights or F4FR, I would like to say thank you for your support and others who feel the same.

These kids needs alot of mental counseling. This is the type of behavior that lead many to become serial killers..When killing & torturing animals doesn’t fill the need anymore, they will more than likely move on to people..will probably start with young kids who can not defend for themselves and/or can be easily manipulated or coerced. When they become older, more stronger, they will move on to women and probably younger men…
Sadly, our legal system will slap them on the wrist and let them go with little or no jail time..and little or no mental counseling…I think we will possibly read of these kids again in the future..God help them because our legal system won’t…

These people have no conscience, no empathy for living creatures, human or mammal. They won’t get better because no one can give them a conscience….
They will escalate to torturing and killing human beings in time.
I don’t know what the answer is, but beware!

It should not matter what kind of animal that is abused. Abuse is abuse and I have long thought that any kind of abuse to any animal should be a felony. Why should only domestic animals be included? Fish, farm animals, and wild animal should also be included. I am sick of such light punishment given to animal abusers. They should all do hard time.
Skysurfer 11:32 pm on October 30, 2010 Permalink |
I agree with all of the above responses with one addendum: it should not matter what the dollar value of the animal is…cruelty is cruelty and should be punished accordingly. All animals have a life, and that life should be respected.
Shari Sprague 11:34 pm on October 30, 2010 Permalink |
We need to have courts specifically for animal related cases, with judges and lawyers who are educated on the human-animal bond and the implications of abuse, particularly if done by children. As a professional, I have had to testify in animal abuse cases, and have heard comments from prosecutors like “I have to prosecute rapes and murders, who cares if some kid beat a cat to death? There are a million more cats out there.” It’s that kind of attitude that lets kids and adults off with a slap on the wrist, when animal abuse is a dangerous predictor of future behaviors. Anyone who watches Animal Court and similar programs on TV can see that the judge often doesn’t understand the issues involved, and the rulings are either too lenient or just flat wrong. Kids in my hometown recently set a cat on fire, repeatedly, and in another case, a housesitter’s friends tortured and killed the family cat, while his friends watched and did nothing. All got off with minimal punishment because they were “just kids” and it was “just a cat.” Until we have courts that truly understand these issues, these kids will be allowed back on the street, and then everyone will be surprised that they become serial killers– everyone except the animal lovers who knew from the beginning how serious their actions truly were.

I’m curious about the outcome of the Deaconu girl. I had a similar experience. My ex husband came to my home to gather his things when I was out of town. He unplugged my aquarium, killing 12 fish. Even though they weren’t expensive, they meant a lot to me. I hired lawyer and took him to court for emotional and property damage and he had to pay a fine and served 2 months in jail. It is a very sick thing indeed and it appears that it wasn’t legally addressed but should and can be.
Eisbär 1:41 am on October 31, 2010 Permalink |
Domestic animals and pets are illegal to kill if they are killed inhumanely. You can put down a sick dog or cat and it is legal. The torture part is disturbing and illegal for social policy reasons obviously! If someone kills someone else’s domestic animal or pet, they can also be sued civilly for trespass to chattel or conversion. Probably conversion if the animal is dead.
Conversion is when the owner is either deprived of their chattel permanently or for a significant amount of time, or if the chattel is no longer usable or cannot be restored to its original condition. Pets are classified as chattels, i.e property.
Many states have laws about what animals can be killed in certain circumstances and they all have policies for making the laws in the first place. There are also federal laws protecting certain animals.

I wouldn’t say this about anyone other than the monsters that do stuff like that to animals and children, but i really, truly don’t think they deserve safety, happiness, comfort or love ever again in their lives. First, I really appreciate this site for many reasons regarding animal rights and laws (or lack of).
Secondly, People say it’s just a cheap fish and arguments should fish have rights like other animal. What seems to be more pertinent is lack of discussion of human decency, appreciation and respect for life. Some people just don’t grasp these concepts. Snide remarks saying, it’s just a “stupid” fish, show how far behind humans are to being enlightened.

Some people say, well, it’s just a fish, it’s gonna die soon anyway! Well, first, a betta should live between 3-6 years. Some dogs only live 10 years, does that mean you can mistreat them? And humans only live about 90 years! Well, compared to some creatures (say a turtle), that’s nothing! How many years is enough years for a creature to deserve respect and peace? Pathetic! That girl should be poisoned too! Sickening!

The saddest thing about the “Pet Cemetary” story, is it only gets worse!! And she only got two years!! For torturing over fourty animals, her seven children were forced to watch and participate while she abused them all as well. So sad. This lady needs to be moved out of NY to a state that executes!! Pretty disgusting to think that there isn’t more JUSTICE in our own “JUSTICE SYSTEM”!! Check this most recent story update out…
Sharon McDonough, L.I. Mother, Gets Two Years In Child, Pet Abuse Case
By FRANK ELTMAN 03/30/11 02:09 PM ET
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — A judge who lamented he could not legally impose a stiffer sentence gave the maximum two-year jail term Wednesday to a woman who abused her seven children and tortured and killed dozens of family pets, sometimes in the presence of the children, burying animal carcasses in her suburban Long Island backyard.
Sharon McDonough, 44, pleaded guilty last month to animal abuse and child endangerment charges after authorities said she created what her son called “a concentration camp for the animals” in her Selden, N.Y., home. It was that adult son, Douglas McDonough, who turned in his mother to authorities in 2009.
Neither he nor his six younger sisters attended the sentencing in Suffolk County Court, but Assistant District Attorney John Cortes read a pre-sentencing letter that Douglas McDonough sent to the judge. The girls, all younger than 13 when their mother was arrested, are now in foster care.
“As one who has witnessed his `mother’ choke the life out of a living animal and physically and emotionally abuse and destroy her own children, I know what she is capable of doing,” said McDonough’s letter, a copy of which prosecutors provided to reporters after the proceeding. “I fear for my well-being, my sisters and my six-month old child. She has already destroyed us to a certain point.”
Suffolk County Court Judge C. Randall Hinrichs issued a permanent order of protection, requiring McDonough to stay away from her children when she is released. Because McDonough was held on $100,000 bail in the county jail since her arrest in 2009, the sentence with time off for good behavior means she should be released as soon as mid-April, prosecutors and her attorney said.
“The penal law is inadequate to adequately address the true magnitude of the actions here,” Hinrichs said before imposing sentence. He said he agreed with prosecutors who described McDonough’s actions as “sinister, barbaric and evil.”
Court-appointed attorney Christopher Brocato said McDonough understands she will not be welcome in her old neighborhood, a proposition that is largely moot because her home is in foreclosure.
Brocato insisted during the sentencing that McDonough still loves her children. “I know that may seem, on the surface, hard to believe, but she does,” the attorney told the judge.
Brocato said afterward that his client is “overwhelmed with grief and guilt.” He said he spoke on her behalf because she was emotionally distraught.
The attorney also noted that McDonough had been in an abusive marriage and was suffering from depression. McDonough’s husband was killed in a car accident in 2008.
Prosecutors said McDonough killed numerous kittens and dogs, stashing the dead cats in the trash, and burying 42 dead dogs in the backyard of her home. The dogs were buried because some had identifying microchips implanted in them, and McDonough feared being discovered if the carcasses were found in the trash, they said.
The children were not only abused but were also forced to witness the deaths of family pets. They lived amid the animals that were kept in wretched cages filled with urine and feces. McDonough acknowledged once placing duct tape over the mouth of a cat and hanging it from the ladder of a daughter’s bunk bed until it died.
Cortes also noted that the children were barred from using a bathroom in the home and were forced to defecate and urinate in buckets. She also said the children were not allowed to take showers and cleaned themselves with cloth wipes.
This is TERRIBLE!!! I’m from near there, and it makes me sick to think not only do people like this truly exsist, they have children! I, among thousands of others, have taken action to do all I can to see this monster brough to justice. Many of us have even went as far as writing to the prosecuting judge and tell him that I believe his sentence is unjust and she walked away with nothing but her face on the tabloids and a slap on the wrist. Thankfully, she lost her children, but I’m she she lost no pride. Anyone else that is touched by this, please, Please, PLEASE help any way possible. There are many different stories online, also any members of facebook can chose to follow there, which also has the address for the judge, pictures of the surviving animals when they were finally saved from torture, during their rehibilitation, and also some pictures of the monster herself, laughing after court, being taken out in cuffs, pictures of this woman’s house, and the SPCA actually digging up the backyard/cemetary, and hauling off bags by the dozen. As I said before, Please help make sure this woman gets the same justice reigned upon her as she has done to her seven children and all of these innocent animals!!!

You did a great work exposing those people, hopefully soon non-human life will have more good and protective laws against those rotten souls.
